I'm somewhat new to collecting and bounce all over the place when collecting coins. I guess I would say I'm more into pennies than anything so far, although I really do like standing liberty quarters. So im asking what is your favorite coin to collect and why or does everybody just collect everything. I think everyone who collects has a favorite, and out of boredom I would like to know what they are!

    My favorite? All of them!

I actually just wrote a little something on this topic in another thread.

I like Half Dollars and Quarters.

Half Dollars from the Bust series straight through to the Kennedy series

Quarters I like from the Seated series through to the Standing Liberty's

I dislike 'small coins' and stay away from copper unless its higher grade large cents. I do like nickels though and some odd denominations like the 2-cent and both 3-cent pieces. I also dont really collect dollar coins too much either. I like the Seated and Trade Dollars, but they are a little pricey and I have the major keys for the Peace series so not much love there. I also skip the Morgans as they are so plentiful I cant pick them up at any time it seems.

I strongly dislike most modern coinage, but again will pick something up if it pulls at me enough.

The high-value one that's buried in a lot of low-value stuff so that I'm the only one who spots it. :)

Money seems to always be the problem with this hobby, that, and wives.

Never enough money to spend on all the things we want, and there is always (well not always, but for most of us this is the case) a woman nagging us to quit playing with our coins and pay attention to them, oh and to stop spending money on money.

I can say Lady Liberty is the only woman I would ever cheat on my soon-to-be wife with though.

Believe me if I had unlimited money I'd try to get a collection like Louis eliasberg with the 1870-s half dime and a confederate half dollar ;)

While I do collect all US series as well as tokens and currency, my favorites would be large cents and bust halves. I spend 90% of my collecting time on those.

You know whats funny Bill, you know I drew some parallels between our lives with us both being young(er) and self employed entrepreneurs with similar interests in coins we collect. Well I also own a cat who is my little buddy for real, and wouldnt you know he isnt solid black, but in fact is solid white. LOL.

I feel like you are me in about 10 years.

Heres some shots of my little man, from kitten to pretty much now.

A more recent photo. He is odd eyed and deaf, most personality I have ever seen in a cat and you can hardly tell he is handicapped.

I'm addicted to Lincoln Cents. But I also like the Mercury dimes, Buffalo nickels, standing quarters. These were the ones we look forward to finding in change growing up.

Mine is quite fiesty since we have a dog and the cat cant hear. Hes had his claws removed though so its funny watching him 'box' the dog with those fast little paws.

Doesnt help our pup is a pansy either.

There are so many coins I like that it's hard to answer the question. I guess it depends on what I'm interested in at a given moment. Overall I most enjoy collecting type coins and early commemoratives. I'm also working on a Buffalo nickel set. Every once in a while I branch off into foreign, as I especially like Russian, British and German coins. To top it off I have gotten a bug recently for US paper money, as I think a lot of the large size type notes are undervalued and also have beautiful designs.

I've never gotten into Morgans because they seem to be so common. Modern coins don't appeal to me much either although I have recently gained an appreciation for Ikes. I have absolutely no desire to own any coin slabbed MS70, especially bullion as I would rather spend that money on more coins.

Last, but not least, I can't leave out my two guinea pigs, Jacob and JJ. My two little girls love them to death and I get to fertilize the flower bed with you know what from their cage...

Organic fertilizer is the best. We own a seafood market and I am in the process of figuring out how to use the scraps (innards and remaining body parts) as fertilizer.

I have a few people who just bury the whole mess like 3-4 ft down and then just plant over top of it. I have a raised bed garden though and was thinking of emulsifying the 'softer' scrap parts and then freezing it into cubes that i can then push down into the dirt to melt and seep into the soil. Still playing with the idea though. Its either that or baking the mess to dry it all out to turn into powder.
