For those of you who bid on coins on Ebay. Bid it all the way to the end or just go all in and see what happens?

Depends on starting bid (low or relatively high), current situation with bids and the amount of bidders. If anyone got some kind of winning method, I really doubt it will be revealed here.

I suppose this is where everyone is going to say "I have a set price and do not cross that price." I actually use the buy now format for 90% of the coins, but I snipe when I have to (often overpaying). One thing I used to do was take command of an auction early. Say someone just puts up a coin at auction. If you bid high (your comfort area) right off the bat, than you will kill a lot of the action that the auction might have had.

Most people try to wait until the last few seconds, which is the best method. However, I usually just enter the highest bid I'm willing to pay based on CDN and walk. If I get outbid, the new bidder is basically over-paying so it doesn't bother me in the slightest.

    eBay is snipe city.
I put in my best price at the last second and hope for the best.
    Ditto for Teletrade

I don't play the bidiots war on eBay auctions. I search the BINs and especially the BINs that I can make an offer on.

    No muss, no fuss.

If its an auction i like to put in a bid at the beginning just so i get a reminder when the auction is almost over, then I come in late and snipe.

If its BIN, I like to haggle with the seller to get a lower price.

^This. I never bid with more than 5 seconds to go, and never watch the bids. Sometime I win nothing out of 40 bids I placed, other times win 20 of them. If you watch the auction the only thing I find happens is you talk yourself into overpaying.

My last try: I was high bidder with one second to go; then the snipes came. I was outbid by $700.

When i see a item i want i will bid it up to the point where either im the high bidder or its higher then i am willing to pay, at that point i am trying to weed out the items i have no chance of winning so i don't waste time watching them. If i get to be the high bidder i don't use the proxy until the last minute, if i get outbid i don't try to outbid them until the last minute. The goal is to set my proxy bid so late that the other person does not have time to double think how much they are willing to bid.

The only thing I see wrong with this Jason, is that I have started bidding on a coin and it keeps saying I am outbid, so I bid again and again until I reach my breaking point. However at this rate the person who has entered a high bid will never get it for a bargin

I follow the motto that cheap coins are never good and good coins are never cheap. If I see a coin that I want I always using sniping software and place a strong money bid.

If I really want the coin, I'll just put in an obscene amount that the coin is nowhere near worth and likely no one will ever bid over. I win every time. That's rare though, it depends on the coin I'm bidding on honestly. I don't use snipe software though, I'll usually put in what I'm willing to pay and if it goes over, oh well, there's always another one available in most cases.

Heh, that phrase reminded me of the motto dealing with buying hardware/equipment for work. You have the choices of: GOOD, FAST or CHEAP, pick 2 of the 3.

I use it all the time with management who ask about purchasing hardware. You want it good, fast or cheap? Pick two. If they pick any combo with CHEAP, well, it's likely gonna break a majority of the time. If they want to spend more that will likely save them more money over the life of the hardware, pick Good and Fast. :)

I bid until it gets to a price where it is the same as what I could buy it for
NOT on e-bay. Then some one out bids the item not me. I buy the item elsewhere
and the happy sniper gets the item for MORE than I am paying. I factor in shipping
    with all bids.---John

I never use eBay for quality coins. I buy them at coin shows or in a showroom in person. They normally are already graded. So what I will bid on, are the less expensive coins to begin with. If I don't win the one I like, I have no problem finding another just as good. And since I can reasonably grade a coin, I'll always buy raw at this price level.
