I just spent 30 minutes today looking through a coin dealer's 4 for $1 bin, and pulled on some pre 1900's coins, 12 of them. I don't know other countries that well, but most coins before 1900 are worth at least 25 cents, so I could not go wrong. One of the coins...was 1877 1 Rappen from Switzerland, it's considered a key date and worth $70 in VF-20 per NGC, one in WORSE condition that mine sold for $48, so I'm pretty stoked.
I pulled a high AU 1942/1 mercury dime out of a junk silver pile at a pawn shop years ago. I want to say I paid about .50 for it. It still resided in my dansco.
I pulled an 1818 Venezuelan piece (2 real if I remember correctly) from a junk silver bucket at a coin store and sold it for $400.
My best "Dealers Bin" purchase was a 1971-S DDR coin which I recently sold for way more than I purchased it. 1 of 2 graded by PCGS and on par with the 1961 Franklin DDR.
Also, in junk silver: 3 1943/2 Jefferson nickels, one in AU. Not in junk silver: A number of 1864 L Indians, purchased as No L. and my favorite: a 1909 S Lincoln, now slabbed as a 1909 S VDB
1945 s micro s dime from a dealers junk box. Paid $5. later sold it for $100 to another customer of the store who heard what I found.
pulled over 20 €.50, €1 and €2 coins out of the 50c bin at a flea market once. i also got a €200 bill for $200 ( i then took it to the bank down the street and traded it for $285US)
I'd say AU, or low MS, Frank. It was a great looking coin. That dealer never looked for varieties. Said his eyes were too bad and he didn't care enough to. So I had found a lot of nice surprises over the years while he was open.
