Check out the rim at 5 o'clock and the letters "in god we trust". Looks like the color is chipping off. Fake?
The coin looks like it has some type of funk or mold type of stuff on the letters. I don't think it's fake but I don't see it as a problem free coin either so I would say pass on this one.
What you are seeing at 5:00 is just the slab insert wrapping over the edge. Common problem with these soft "rubber" inserts. PCGS had a real problem with it.
It looks like silver or nickel to me. I know it's probably not a fake but something doesn't seem right with the coloring around the rim. i don't think it's the edge wrapping
look at the 4th picture and zoom in. it's driving me crazy because i've never seen anything like that
It's the translucent gasket that PCGS used on these holders that is partially riding up on the rim of the coin. This is exceptionally common.
the discoloration is clearly above the edge of the at the 5 o'clock position. zoom in on the picture of the obverse sitting level and not at an angle
I see nothing wrong with the coin...Mike p.s. Tom, the coin was slabbed by ANACS, not PCGS. Your comments about the gasket are dead on, but you didn't need me to tell you that.
You've gotten solid (and correct) responses from a number of knowledgeable people, so you would do well to accept it and learn from them. Well, you have now.
I often see that, something on the container that looks like a scratch but it is fact something on the container.
I have to add this, the letters "L" and "I" in Liberty look very odd, out of alignment. Would this come from distortion through the holder too?
