What is wrong with this 1997 penny?

    Excessive Post Mint Damage.
    The copper layer has been removed exposing the zinc layer.

    Yes as Sal said. The copper plating is thin on ZLincons. Abrasive contact to the high points will remove the plating.
    These are pretty common to find in rolls or pocket change.

    Do they hold any value? I haven’t seen a penny that great as this one before.
