What is WRONG with my penny?

    Either acid or ink, but with that picture, there is no telling.

    try using the macro setting and turn off your flash.

    My camera has no flash...but it could be ink now that I think about it. Thanks!

    More then acid or ink I'd say it's a burn mark... If it is burn then it will be on the surface.... if it is, it should come off with water dish soap and some paper towel scrubbing. (that will scratch your coin microscopically, I don't think it should matter but I know I'm gonna get a bunch of crap from other members for the "towel scrubbing" part of this post haha, so this is my disclaimer... do what you want)

    actually, i'd soak it in water for a few days, if it is ink, there could be a slight discoloration of the water as it started to dissolve.
