Found this the other day and never seen anything like it. I have suspicion it may he a dryer coin but I just don't know. Description is like this: It is almost double as thick as a normal cent. Ok both the obverse and reverse it has an extra high rim. All lettering and facial details are missing. Under a 30X loop it looks like some of the lamination is peeling away from the edges. Any help would be great, hey mabey I'm wrong and its not pmd, but I doubt it. Thanks, William
I'd have to agree with your initial thought. Looks like a Lincoln Cent that spent a good portion of it's life stuck in a dryer.
Ok that's what I thought...... Can you explain how this happens in the dryer.... Does the heat make it go thicker and lose details?
PMD, dryer penny for certain. It's worth, well, nothing really. Maybe a retailer will think it's a real penny, but I wouldn't be surprised if they declined it as trade value for goods.
The coins get caught in the fins of the dryer and get tumbled just like in a rock tumbler. Some may stay in for years or until the dryer needs repair. A friend of mine bought a building that used to have a commercial laundry in the basement and when he took apart the dryers, he found dozens of coins. Some were so smooth that they looked like slugs.
Or you could list it on eBay for a ridiculous amont: http://www.ebay.com/itm/330662033272?ssPageName=STRK:MEBOFFX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1432.l2649
Funny you post that here, I just started a thread earlier stating everyone needs to save their dryer coins. Good stuff.
