I was wondering what my Canadian penny is worth the details are below... 1. Face value is 1 cent 2. I'm absoloutly sure that it's not a medal or token 3. Copper alloy maybe...the color of it is brownish-red 4. 1867-1967 is what it says where the date is "supposed to be" (I know, I know, it's a centennial) 5. I'm not so sure about the mint mark it says D.G. Regina though... maybe it's the Ottawa mint because that's what it said on the website I went on (or I think it did, anyway) 6. The back is in better shape than the front of the coin the front has blotches and greenish marks and yellowish stuff-ish (should I clean it? and if I should, how?) the back has less marks and blotches 7. The details are pretty sharp but the light doesn't reflect so well off of it... 8. I know what most people say..."never clean coins..." but it seems like I can't resist to clean it...but I'm not, not just yet.
In that condition your coin is worth approximately 3/4 of 1 U.S. cent at current exchange rates. The mintage was 345,140,645, and the 2006 Krause catalog assigns the nominal value of 10-20¢ for uncirculated specimens. Chances are your coin has PVC residue on it, which can be safely cleaned by a quick rinse in pure acetone (not nail polish remover containing various additives) followed by a rinse in deionized water and air drying.
Just to add - all the circulating coins in 1967 were struck to commemorate Canada's centennial. The reverse or the 1¢ coin shows the design of a rock dove in keeping with the wildlife theme featured on all the coins of that year. Bill
