Hey I was wondering if anyone knows that is the stuff on her ear? I have seen several like this with some sort of tan colored something on the ear. Is this just toning or some sort of residue? looking at it under the 10 just shows like reflective metal.

Well it's hard to tell from the pic, but to be honest it look like it hit something. You know when you get in a car accident and the paint from the other car gets on yours? That's what it looks like. Can you tell me if it is sticky or "grainy" to the touch. It may be just tape resideu, but I'm not sure....

It is not sticky at all. It has the consistency of toning and has no texture at all. Paint transfer all seems unlikely but an awesome suggestion! I also thought tape or maybe even pvc.

I think it is just a hard hit, or maybe paint transfer. It's a nice morgan, but that hit might cost you a grade....

It looks like a scuff mark from something it came in contact with. That is one of the high points on the Morgan design and is susceptable to wear or damage.

And that's what it is - wear.

I have some GSA CC Morgans with that same wear, so blame it on 75 years of bag storage.

Not necessarily. It could easily be actual wear from circulation. And yes I am talking about your CC Morgans. You see, when the GSA folks opened all those bags and sorted out the coins, the people doing the sorting couldn't tell a circulated coin from an uncirculated coin. So some circ coins made their way into the uncirc (hard pack) holders and some uncirc coins made their way into the circ (soft packs) holders.

So the packaging doesn't mean anything one way or the other. It's the coin itself that determines if it is circ or uncirc.

About 85% of the 1884-CC Morgans went right into bags and were stored at the Treasury Department until the GSA releases. This percentage also takes into consideration the 50 bags that were paid out in 1955.

This will be my last post on this subject since I'm fed up with these goldanged wide-bodied threads that don't need to be this wwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

OK. But that still leaves plenty of CC dollars that are circulated. Even the pops show this. It's no secret that what I'm saying is true Chris. It happened. The people sorting the coins didn't know a thing about coins, and they made mistakes. Sure, most of them really are uncirc, but there's always those dang mistakes mixed in.
