What is this nickel?

OK so I was sifting through a bunch of old coins I inherited from a relative that she had hoarded for YEARS and came across this nickel. I have no idea what it is and the date is not readable. The diameter is a bit smaller and the edge is rounded rather than flat like a normal nickel.

I know that getting stuck in a dryer or machine can cause similar results, but the edge just looks too strange to me. Its like there is some lamination around the inside of the rim or something.

Anyone know if its and error or just an interesting damaged coin?

ETA - The last pic shows the rounded edge compared to 2 other nickels on each side.

That's what I was kinda expecting to hear. I had just not ever actually seen one in person I guess.

So...I have an interesting conservation piece worth about 5 cents...lol.

    Thanks for the confirmation.

That is a nickle that has been tapped on the edge by a spoon. It is an old practice to make rings out of old coins. I have seen several this way and have a quarter done the same way. My cousin's son (still my cousin I guess) made one about a year ago and after tapping on He it drilled out the center.
