One last kennedy for today This one, at first I thought it was a failed attempt to drill a hole (I see lots of holes drilled in kennedy halves). Upon closer inspection, though - that's definitely not it. Here are some pictures as clear as I can make them. It looks like maybe the clad layer was incomplete, or something? MAYBE some sort of struck through, but I dunno... the edges of the hole/dent are very weird. I dunno what else to call it. And it looks like some sort of design at the bottom of the hole? the lines in there are raised. Please look carefully at the pictures, before saying it is pmd. I cannot ID what this is, but it definitely has the feel of being legitimate, to me... I feel like this coin has probably always had this mark. this hole is positioned in very poor taste, either way, IMO...
ok, I will post the reverse tonight when I get to a computer. But for now I can tell you, no marks or scratches are on the back. It is just a plain reverse - this is strictly an obverse thing.
In this case then your coin is mostlikely a struck thru. I told a true story on this forum a while back and got laughed at over it but it was the God's honest truth. about 2 or 3 years ago I found a a coin still sealed in the mint set that had a large size struck thru place on it that looked exactly like a big cut stone from a piece of jewelery. I sold it on Ebay for a good price and now I wish I still had that coin. It was in a sealed 2005 mint set and I believe it was on the 5 cent coin , I remember that because I was buying these mint sets trying to find some of the state quarter doubled dies.
I'm tempted to call it PMD. Note the mark that runs diagonally through the impression from about 4 o'clock to 10 o'clock. It appears to be a strand of his hair which continues on to the northwest (outside of the impression). Photo #3 illustrates it best. If this were a strikethrough, you wouldn't see it. Chris
