Not an error. Just a busted up cent.

Did anyone look under "Liberty"? I'd like to see this close up with just that section enlarged. It looks like a clash from the shield possibly, besides being beat up.

Hang onto it until you can get an in hand inspection by a dealer. It's hard to tell still but I do believe it's a die clash. It's not going to make it worth anything but it's still a keeper. (At least for me, I'm a pack rat). Thanks for the 2nd photo.

Those are scratches/gouges. Not a clash.

Not looking at the scratches. See my outline. It's raised. 1 die clash.jpg

That wouldn't correlate to the reverse...

I agree, according to the overlay (thanks) but it could be an anomaly that does not correspond to an exact clash. I have quite a few that do not match perfectly. Otherwise I cannot explain what I see. Not the damage, the raised area. If it was incused I would accept that someone took a hammer to it as evidenced by the rest of the damage. Please don't get me wrong. I'm not trying to be difficult about this, just see something that interests me for further investigation.

I got you there. But it would have to be way off from where it "should" be to even consider a clash IMO.

    I agree maybe it's a die crack

I highly doubt it. But that's the last I will say on the subject :)
