What is this coin and how much is it worth?

    Found this coin roll hunting in halves. It looks like its from Africa and worth 1 dollar there. Possible date on it is 1959. It also sounds like its made from silver.

    If you know what this coin is please tell me as much as you can!
    What is this coin worth and whats the silver content in it if it does so in fact have silver?

    It's a South Africa 1 penny. It's not silver and that's not its normal color. It's plated in something. With the hole it's not worth anything.

    The d in "1D" apparently refers to a denarius, oddly enough. One of the strange holdovers from Roman Britain that was exported to several Commonwealth countries.

    1d is not $1, but rather a British penny (as noted above). For some reason, a LOT of those were silver plated in the 40's-60's.

    cool find, i found an england ten pence in a roll of nickels, nearly had a heart attack when i saw the rim and not the head or tail first, thought it was a silver quarter.......

    The plating and the hole mean that it was probably sold as something to be worn.
