what is this? and whats it worth?

    its gold, and its old, i guess thats all i know...A)what is it? B) whats it worth?

    How do you know it's gold? Don't look like gold to me, but then again I'm not wearin' my glasses.....

    it looks more gold sitting here then it does on the comp, it could be something else i really dont know

    you could tell pretty easily by the density holding it to a equal size coin.

    it might be brass? if they made coins from that...? its kinda heavy

    The radiate crown is the distinguishing feature.

    If it's silver, it's an Antoninus.

    If it's brass, it may be a Dupondius.

    I don't know if the Romans made gold coins with radiate crowns.

    Not a very good distinguishing feature. There were plenty of laureate portraits on dupondii. And this antoninianus is brass, as were most after the reign of Gallienus. Under Trajan Decius, there were even radiate double sestertii. In the late 3rd century, radiate portraits were used on gold.
