What is the oldest proof coin that I could buy for less than $250.00. Grade is not an issue but I'm looking for the oldest proof coin I could get for less than $250.00

edit: now, after looking at Numismedia, I was surprised how inexpensive PF V Nickels are in High AU or Low MS.

Proof Three Cent Nickels are a little higher, but not too bad.

you should be able to pick up a proof three cent nickel 1866-1873 for around $200 or so.

There are proof Conders from the 1790's that can be had for less than that. Just looked on Bill McKivor's website found two 1793's for Warwickshire at $165 each, A mishandled 1793 Yorkshire at $32, a 1791 Anglesey at $155, a 1791 Lanarkshire at $95

a Proof seated dime would be in that price area.

Liberty nickel or maybe another coin?

    Hello Mcarney,

I have much experience with proof Liberty nickels in grades from PF55 to PF66. There are different appearances including cameos & colors & bright white. Each coin has a place in my collection. Please let us know your application for the old proof coin & I may be able to help.

    Very best regards,

I looked at the price guides and based on Numismedia's price guide for PF Liberty Nickels, I would very much like to tackle a liberty nickel proof set. Based on my current budget, I could easily afford a PF60 every other month. However, there seems to be practically nothing on ebay or heritage in regards to PF58-PF62. Could you provide me with some basic information on collecting these along with some places I could buy these from. Thanks collect89

I hope that was a joke. They seem pretty expensive.
