Hey everyone, what is the best way to authenticate a coin? My dad sent me a Chinese coin that he bought in a bazaar in Afghanistan, and my Krause said that it was worth 37 grand, so it would be VERY nice if I could find out if that was a real deal! Thanks!

Just about anyone on the board will tell you that most stuff coming out of China these days are forgeries, they were pretty crude at first but now they are becoming quite deceptively accurate in their looks.

Perhaps if you could post a picture of the said coin here one of the members here, or perhaps several could assist you in the determination of this piece.

    BTW welcome to the board:D

    welcome!

Like he said post a photo. While it is impossible for us to authenticate your coin from the photo, if it is a mediocre or worse fake we can save you the cost of professional authentication.

After you get some opinions on the coins authenticity, then you can determine if it is worth paying to have it professionally authenticated, by sending it to one of the auction houses for sale or one of the reputable third party grading firms.
