This is a tough choice so i have to list two the first one has to be the Series 661 $20 in 68PPQ a Rare note in gem grades this is the one and only 68 with a population of 1 as far as the why The art work i think is the finest in the series just stunning! this is also close to the top as far As value which would be right around 4k. The close second is the Series 681 $10 in 69PPQ another top pop with a population of 1 the fact That this is a 69 only one grade from perfection only adds to the appeal also the fact it Depicts a actual military theme is a great addition as most dont the value on this one would Be around 2.5K
"Best" is a tough call. I'll show a couple: French Somaliland P-11. This is the Walhain-drawn note who's vignette was used in several banknotes. In this case by the Banque d'Indochine. Early in WWII, the Italians had taken over French Somalia, and it had been realigned with the Vichy French (Axis). When the British were re-taking much of North Africa, French Somalia was re-taken by the British and Free French. The Banque d'Indochine overprinted all circulating notes at that time, to make sure it was clear that it was aligned with the French. This particular note I have never seen in shape even close to this one (Unc), and is something I'm very happy to have found. Probably a $2000 note. And then another "best of..." is this 5000 franc note from France, designed by Francois Flameng in 1891. Originally printed in 1918 right after WWI, it was not released until September 1938 and only for that one month. I consider it one of the most beautiful banknotes ever issued. It's a gem of most any French collection, probably in the $7-10K range. Dave
Those are all beautiful notes. I have been wanting to get some notes for my collection for a while now because there are so many out there with beautiful art work on them.
There are about a dozen notes, All of them were either sent to the sec. of the treasury or the Treasurer of the US. I have a few that were signed by one person and I had to wait in line for the signature, but that was OK I have some that I sent away to the persons business or personal address Those are the ones I like the most.
I'll assume by "best" you mean "favorite"... and even then kind of hard to choose, but if I had to pick one it would be this one: http://banknotebank.com/viewnote/917707 Love the expression on the dragon's face as he protects the cup or chalice he's wrapped around, with the tendril of smoke coming out of his nostril. If by best you mean best condition, I have quite a few in CU but none of them are hard to get in that condition, so will call it a multi-way tie among several. (None are graded by TPGs.)
Its hard for me to choose a favorite. But I will show a couple that I really like. Not as nice as mpcusa's note. But there are two reasons why I like this note. The fact that it has Lady Liberty which represents the history of U.S. And that it resides in New York which I currently reside. And this one which I like just because of the design.
Rare seal and signature combination. This note is very hard to find in high grade. Gems are almost unknown, with only four notes graded higher. This note has yet to appear in any census. But I have come across at least one another note with a sequential serial number to my own. I did some research and found out where my note came from. A company called Goldline, who bought and sold gold bullion, got a hoard of notes printed in the 1890s a few years ago. Between 2011 to 2012, they were slowly selling these notes through major auctions. There were also some Fr. 70 and 71s: rare brown seal Woodchoppers, and $20 1891 treasury notes. All in very high grade. What an unbelievable find. .
Hmmm, favorite notes of mine have to the two here. One is my favorite for the design (if no one could tell from my avatar pic), and one is my favorite note from my error collection.
I can't pick one. My most valuable is either my $5 1928E Mule or $100 1928 Gold Certificate, but neither is my "best" or favorite. There are about 50 notes that I really enjoy more than others, how can I choose? Here, a random one of the 50... high VF $500 CSA note...
"best" is very vague - I took it to mean favorite, but it could mean highest grade, most rare, or several things.
Not sure what is meant by "best" so I'll include my own categories. The rarest note I have is this: Its a five dollar national from Emporium, PA (my wife's hometown). The bank has a total of 12 outstanding notes in all denominations. However, it's not my favorite note. My $1 Educational series is still my favorite. I'd like to get the others to go along with it as I believe this series was the pinnacle of US note design. Guy
Well once upon a time there were quite a few top collection notes. Now.. all that I saved was the Series 1934C NY FRN regular issue and the complete star note set including the Star Notes. Why? This set is unique as it contains both the Old Back and New Back regular issued $20 notes and their Star Note counter parts. The $100 note was not printed for the New York District. Everything else is currently up at Auction at Heritage (Fun Show) and the Tuesday Currency Auctions just before and right after the show. If you see copius New York Notes in these auctions.. 98% chance they once resided here. Got to pay the price for stayin alive...lol Old Back Not Graded New Back Not Graded Happy Holidays to all of you! God Bless!!
