Hello everyone! I am new to this. I was just wondering if anyone knew what a MS 69 2000 gold eagle set is worth? I have seen them on Ebay but only in proof sets not MS69? What is worth more a proof set or MS 69? I also had a ? about 1/10 ounce platnium eagles, I have MS 70 (2 of them 2000 and 2001) I have seen them go for big bucks but my grader is IGC are they the same as PGCS? or what ever one that says the MS 70 is worth so much? I appreciate any help on the coins listed above! Thanks!

They're only worth what someone is willing to pay for them.

As far as MS-70, what sellers on eBay are asking for their MS-70 coins and what they actually get for them are two different values. For some reason people think MS-70 demands a high premium, when in reality it doesn't. MS-69 is just as good looking as MS-70, and at reasonable prices too.

Gold eagles are down in price right now, according to the market quote from monex.com, $1236.10/oz.; Platinum eagles are down, 1623.50/oz.

    Is that a good price?

    I don't collect gold coins.

I would assume the same would hold true with other coins in a slab, one buys the coin and not the slab.

Thank you for your input, sounds fair! I guess the MS 69 are not worth much more in that state than in proof form huh? I did see a huge difference in the platnium coins like example: a MS 69 was a couple hundred and the MS 70 grade was going for $1200.00 I believe because these coins are hard to get in this state? is this a true though? I have them graded MS 70 with IGC but the coins I am ?ing are PGCS. What I really want to know is if I get them regraded by PGCS would it be worth it or can I even do this???? thank you! this site is awesome!

You could most definitely get them regraded by PCGS but you risk them not coming back a '70 and, in my opinion, it's just not worth the extra cost. I'd leave 'em be. There's lots of folks in these parts who are of the opinion that you don't "slab" bullion coins. Myself? I like 'em in OGP...:smile

Oh, and welcome to the forum old fellow......

I was just having a discussion with one of my main dealers I do business with about slabbed vs raw.

He agrees raw is just as good as slabbed. It's still the same coin regardless.

So many of these coins are churned out in high grade that there really is (again, my opinion) no need to get 'em slabbed. Doesn't really add much to the overall value. However, there are folks who like to collect 'em in TPG'er holders. Whatever floats your boat. Just don't get bamboozled into payin' too much jing....

Thanks for the input. Some of my coins are in slabs so I don't get much enjoyment out of them, but they where for investment at the time I purchased them. I have many other coins and some neat paper, I will try to post them soon! I was wondering like I said a coin worth 1200 to 180 is a big difference and if I were to get the coin graded by PCGS it would be a 1000 dollar improvement on my collection? I know some people collect for collecting , but it doesn't hurt for ones collection to be worth more and more each year! I enjoy collecting but in tuff times I think we all consider a sale or two, lol! thanks for the warm welcome and great input!
