I collect Lincoln cents and have started on Buffalo Nickels, but I collect anything I feel might be selling too cheap or if I like it I buy it. Spontanious collecting I guess or to make it sound better a Type Collector (any type LOL). I just want opinions from people who know so that is why I am posting this question on here I always get great answers. Thanks kent

The Rosie! Once the mercury dimes stopped being made, nobody was interested in the Roosevelt series. I think it has to be the cheapest set to put together in high quality coins and is probably under collected by most. This is a case where you might want to zig while everyone else is zaging.

    nah, for most underrated series:
check out 3 cent nickels & silver, plus 2 cent pieces.

I always though half dimes were far underrated. You can pick up pieces with 1/3 the mintage or less of the rarest Lincoln cent for under $100. Nobody I know collects them.

Agree that Roosevelt dimes don't have the following that some more popular series do and I'll add Franklin Halfs. I think the Franklin series is currently underpriced, the coins are silver, and readily available in high grades.

Lots of 19th century "type" coins. Specifically, tougher date three cent nickels and seated coins come to mind. Treashunt pretty much nailed it.

I'm also inclined to mention Liberty quarter eagles just on a hunch. Possibly Barber halves as well.

Pleased to make your acquaintance Guy, still need the 1846, 1865, and 1867 to finish off the seated half dimes.

The whole Barber series IMO, most coins are WELL circulated leaving very few MS. People seem to not bother. That's why I collect them :)

I'll try it again. This post has me thinking about a different strategy after my lincolns.

    Joshy:
    Dimes quarters & $1/2?
    Or just one set?

Same answer as the last twenty four times this question has been asked...

There is no such think as an underrated coin, IMO.

There really is a lot to the set besides the few dates in three cent nickels. There are also a few tough dates along with some very common easy to find dates. It's fun to try and find early die state fully struck coins, and a challenge.

    3 Cent Silver Pieces

I think the 3 cent silver pieces were a great design and are the most underrated of all US coinage (inho).
