That is a coin of the United East India Company (VOC), the Dutch government conglomerate that managed the Netherlands East Indies, now Indonesia. It is a copper Duit (cent) if it is 20 millimeters in diameter. The two lions holding the shield are the coat of arms of the Dutch province of Utrecht. Value depends on amount of wear and the condition of the coin and this coin may be worth about $1 with heavy wear, around $3 with moderate wear and maybe $8 with light wear.
it was also used in ceylon (sri lanka) before the british took control of the island. they very often turn up in bargain boxes in the uk for 10 to 20 pence.
Agreed, probably the cheapest coin dated in the 1700's you can find. Still doesn't make it interesting, just plentiful.
