Can anybody help ? I found a coin in my garden recently which I can't identify. It looks a bit like an old halfpenny I've seen on many sites I've looked at ,but has some differences. It says "rosa sine spina" around a cross with dots in the corners and some letters I can't make out on one side as do most coins I've looked at ,but on the other side , they all have a kings head. Mine has what looks like a tudor rose and what looks like the word "civa" and more letters I can't make out. I appreciate its probably not worth anything but I'm intrigued as to what exactly it is and how old it is . I would be very grateful if anybody has any ideas about what it might be . Thanks in advance .- John
Guy , thanks for getting back so quickly. I can't send a photo just now but its about 14mm diameter (just over half an inch). Hope this helps. Thanks again - John
No, theres no shield at all .Its in quite good condition,The reason I can;t make out some details is that the coin seems to be stamped off centre so some details are half missing.
Try these sites - http://www.24carat.co.uk/coininscriptions.html http://www.coins.nd.edu/ColCoin/ColCoinIntros/RosaAm.intro.html Looks like it might be a twopence.
