Here is scan of a "Victoria House Macroom". The reverse says" James Welply Merchant Macroom. 1845" and has a greenish residue. There is not a crusty corrosion though. I'm considering the olive oil treatment but would like to know first a little about this token.

Do any of you know what country this is from or if it is common/rare.

    Heres the scans, and thanks.

Don't know if it's rare, but the town is in Ireland.

That makes more sense. I thought a macroom was a thing rather than a place.

    Macroom Token.

This is a Farthing Token that was issued during the 1840's,as there was a coin shortage. This piece is from a group of pieces that are commonly known as 'Unofficial Farthings'.

Soak in water first and acetone after that. See what that does before you go to any type of acid.
