Any ideas? Obviously looks like someone did that, but there are absolutely zero markings or scratches around the peeled up area, as you would expect to see if manipulated. I am just a common so I could sound very silly. That's why I am seeking more knowledgeable assumptions on here. Thanks!
Not a Split Planchet. It's a Clamshell Lamination to the Obverse Clad layer Here is an attributed example from my collection..
He had it attributed/slabbed, so I would say it has sufficient value. I’m curious too…what ballpark value is there for a Clamshell Lamination error? @paddyman98 …TIA…Spark
All depends on the type of coin, date and mint mark, condition and if it’s graded or not. I would expect to pay around $300 for a raw common date, more if a semi key date and better condition. Even more if graded and slabbed by a top TPG.
As I mentioned, I am just a common, but knowledgeable enough to know some coins can be worth a pretty penny (I check every coin I get, why I found this) so if anyone is interested I have listed this coin on eBay. Thanks for y'all help
