What in the heck is going on with this washington quarter?

Well i just came back from Miejer our local grocery store and got this
Washington Quarter in change it,s very unusual any thought,s?

A friend of mine use to have a laundrymat and
would color the coins he put in the coin changer

 

Someone painted it and paint has worn away from circulation over the years.

Kinda Art Deco, I dig it.

 

I can dig it!

Paint was my first reaction.

Great story!! and yes it does look like paint under the loop i was able to scrape a little
paint off to verify but it,s like nothing i have ever seen before, go figure...LOL
