I think that was the 2nd time I seen new affect the the World. 1st was the USSR butting nuke in Cuba.JFK was also a part of that too.
If JFK had survived we would have had the Franklin half until it was replaced with the Reagan half. Also, LBJ would have never been president, but Barry Goldwater probably would have.
Suppose the Franklin half dollar series would have continued longer; eventually they may have found another president to replace Franklin. Maybe even Reagan, who knows. Had Kennedy not died here's the presidents that died since 1963: Eisenhower, 1969 (already got on the dollar) Truman, 1972 Johnson, 1973 (but had Kennedy not died, Johnson probably wouldn't have become president) Nixon, 1994 (good chance he wouldn't have become president either) Reagan, 2004 Ford, 2006 (if Nixon hadn't become president, most likely Ford wouldn't have either) I think it's fair to say had Kennedy not died, half dollars may have actually practically circulated longer. They likely still would have had the silver phased out, but would have been less hoarding due to the new design/ sympathy for Kennedy's death. Might have been clad Franklins. At some point they may have redesigned them to get people to use halves more as I still think their use would have declined due to silver hoarding up to the point they went clad. Kennedy may have still got a half dollar anyway, whenever he would have died from natural causes. Based on average longevity in his family, he probably would have lived into the 1980's, maybe early 1990's. Interesting to think about what-ifs in terms of coins lol... P.S. Supposedly a coin design is supposed to be used for at least 25 years before redesigned. Many exceptions have been made of course. The Franklin design theoretically should have persisted until 1973. They might have even put Truman on, in remembrance of what would have been his recent death.
