I think the congress is direcxting the mint into making way to many things... Here is what I would like to see happen. NOTE: This is just my opinion. NO ONE ELSE. Quarters.... The National Park Quarters are just WAY WAY to much, and the giant silver quarter hockey pucks? UGH.... In 2010 I would just like to see a new design Washington Quarter. Dollar Coins. End the Sac Dollar/Native American dollar NOW. Let the presidential coins take their course, and then replace with a new design. Something totally new..... leave it as the standard design. Half Dollars. Leave it alone until 2014, the 50th anniversary of the coin. In 2014, make a one year 3 coin half dollar set of JFK, RFK, and Ted Kennedy. Then change the design to something new. leave it as a standard design. Dime Leave alone. Nickel End the denomination and replace it with the Half Dime with a new design. Cent New design on rear of cent, leave Abe on the front. American Silver Eagle no changes.... American Gold Eagle End the program. (The Buffalos end the need for these) 24K Buffalos. no change. American Platinum Eagle no change. 2009 High Relief Double Eagle. Expand on this program.... once each year. Go back and do a US coin of ANY TYPE with modern minting techniques. Issue in original denomination, size, weight, and metal makeup. Comems: Continue with 1 or 2 a year... or one set of different denominations. Other: End the superfluous packaging options from the mint. Just sell coins. Not packaging. Well one can wish anyway.
You should write your Congressman. Congress decides what the Mint produces. The Mint only does what Congress tells it to do.
Retire the Eagle designs and replace with other classic liberty designs. Maybe the St. Guadens prototype that kind of looks like a Brittania would be cool. End the Sac. Keep the current size and composition, but go bi-metallic with a liberty/egles theme or an eagle obverse with a shield reverse. Offer a silver or gold version for silver proof sets. Make UHR Palladium coin. Try something totally new and unique with the half dollar. Not sure what, but shock people. Issue a series of large cent type copper commems. Something that really shows off copper. Maybe do a reverse proof.
I think all the coins could stand to be changed the common denominations have been around for decades & even centuries. Quarters.... In 2010 I believe that they should replace him with any other president. basically Dollar Coins. Keep the Sac Dollar/Native American dollar. Let the presidential coins take their course. Half Dollars. Leave it alone until 2014, the 50th anniversary of the coin. In 2014, make a one year 3 coin half dollar set of JFK, RFK, and Ted Kennedy. Then change the design to something new. leave it as a standard design. THATS A GOOD IDEA Dime Give it a mini series, since everything else had one. Nickel Leave it. Cent Change it up a bit, Abe has run his course with a 100 years .
Read the first line of my post. ----------- I think the congress is direcxting the mint into making way to many things... Here is what I would like to see happen. NOTE: This is just my opinion. NO ONE ELSE.\ ---------- I just think congress is watering down the mint offerings way to much
change the dollar coin size to ike dollar size for sets and collection purposes. both silver and clad.
Well... the Comem dollars are that size, and that is fine. The Clad sized dollars took quite a toll on mint machinery from what I understand.
I would agree with you for the most part. But leave the dime alone? I fell asleep the other night looking at my Roosevelt dimes. We could give the reverse a new simple design you wouldn't need a microscope to view. As for the Kennedy's: Ted's still alive.
half ounce american eagle silver half dollar. one cent - its size same with previous large cent. one ounce trade dollar. imitation from from previous designed. and possibly issue it every year. continue gold buffalo fractional series. commemorative silver half dollar substituting silver dollar. reduce prices for most of the mint products.
