What happened to the Trump Quarter thread? I received a photo which shows more clarity and have asked for additional shots to share. The coin, definitely looks like the "cup and saucer" which means that an authentic Washington was used to create the piece. The question still remains as to what the composition of the insert might be. This image above can be enlarged to show a seam on the right. I've asked for similar images of the reverse and edge. I also hope that only the "numismatists" respond in the thread so that it can be viewed from a numismatic standpoint instead of from a political standpoint.

I found one of those "no more war" nickels in a roll search about three years ago. I wouldn't mind getting a tRump quarter for my collection also.
What do you think happened to it ? People couldn't keep their mouths shut is what happened to it. And a couple started going in that direction in this thread as well. One was removed, another edited, and I suggest that anyone who posts in this thread from here on out THINK before they do so ! Stick to the topic at hand, the coin, and you'll have no problems. Don't, and not only will your post be edited or removed but I will give an infraction for it as well. And my instructions to the other mods are to do what I just said.

It's not like there is a dearth of numismatic-specific questions associated with this issue: - Is it a real quarter, and if so how did they so cleanly overstrike it? - Is it past the dividing line between what has previously been deemed "acceptable" and "disfiguring?" Is it therefore even legal? - Who struck it? - If it's not real, does it qualify as a counterfeit? Heaven forbid we should treat it like it's a numismatic topic. I hesitated to even post here, because I know better, but for crying out loud this is a place where - despite my objections to some of what's allowed - the administration tries very hard to keep political considerations out of the mix (to their great credit) and y'all don't seem to want to let them. You're demonstrating the level of self-control which leads to buying "MS66" Morgans in NNC slabs, and then wondering why it gets edited.
I'd really like to see the edges of those things, or figure out how it was overstruck while preserving the reverse. In looking on google all I can find are the news stories about people finding these in circulation - I want one to go along with my other politically insensitive quarters.
Honestly, despite my own emotional involvement (considerable) in the political aspect, that's the one feature that most intrigues me. From a numismatic standpoint, the obverse is no great expression of skill (despite artistic accuracy), but that's irrelevant in the context of how one could make it happen without screwing up the reverse. I'd dearly love to get one under magnification.
edited No. This is a thread about a coin. Totally apolitical and Numismatic in the complete sense. While many are referring to this as counterfeit, I believe that they are not since the reverse appears to be an authentic 1965-1998 Washington Quarter. Grind off the face of a quarter, is it now considered counterfeit? Or just damaged? Tear the corner off a dollar bill, is it now counterfeit? Or just damaged? The goal of the thread is to get some accurate photographs and perhaps some discovery stories. Consider it no different than the old Two Heads Kennedy Coins.
As mentioned in the other thread, I also stringly believe that the obverse was machined down just inside the obverse rim and then the Trump Obverse was pushed into the gao left from the machining. What puzzles me is the composition of the insert? If it's plastic, then it would be fairly cheap to create but if it's CopperNickel or some other metal, then it was an expensive operation as the pieces would then have to have been struck and then processed. Right?
Maybe @dcarr would have some insight? I think it looks like some type of thin metal but vacuum formed like plastic. Can they vacuum form thin metal?
I haven't seen a picture of the reverse or edge. So I don't know how they were made. Chrome can actually be plated onto plastic. But that is not an easy process. It would probably be easier to emboss a thin sheet of metal and insert it into the coin. If that were done, it would be hollow under Trump's portrait. But machining out each coin and fitting it with an insert seems like a lot of work if any significant quantity is produced. Affixing advertising to money and then intentionally placing that money back into circulation is actually illegal. But about all that would happen is the Secret Service would tell the originator to stop (if they could be found). That was the case with the stickered "Silver Surfer" quarters and "Where's George" dollar bills.
I have received additional pictures which clearly show that this was made with an authentic quarter which essentially means, it is not a counterfeit. It's illegally modifying legal tender for advertising purposes but its not counterfeit. I'd add one of these to my collection if the opportunity presented itself.
Judging from the additional photo's, it appears as if whomever or whatever has the ability to create the magicians coins has decided to create these pieces as they definitely appear to be machined. (Magicians coin below)
I have found hollowed out shells with nickel roll searches, also found a hollowed out cent with a dime inserted into it. Craziest find for me was the two headed magicians nickel from the 1950s - the only reason I noticed it in the roll search was that it was dated in the 1950s- at the time I kept those, then I turned it over and saw another "heads" side. Curiously two different dates like 1954 and 1956 or something like that.
