2017 GB £1 coin off centre, edge rim has some issues and it’s heavier than the standard 2917 £1 coin any ideas please ?
supposed to weigh 8.75 grams, what does it weigh? The £1 is by far the most commonly encountered UK coin with partial collar errors. but if it's way out of line on the weight it might be a wrong blank or something.
I can't find the royal mint's tolerance but for the previous round ones it was 9.50g +/-0.260 so most likely this 8.81 weight is within acceptable tolerance it's only 0.06g heavier, well within whatever window they set for it. it's a good find regardless if you are into errors. partial collar strike.
I have a few local shops that save me bags of £1 & £2 coins each week for me to have a look through for a couple of hrs after spending months searching through the bags weirdly this was bought on a local auction site on Christmas Day along with another dark brown £1 coin. nobody was bidding so I got the 2 for £10. Not too bad
Here’s the other £1 coin strange times and nice DD around the queens face. Im still struggling to convince my wife that I’m not going nuts paying £10 for 2 £1 coins
You are lucky you have a local UK dealer willing to save coins for you. Around here (U.S.A.) not many would do that, at least that's been my experience. Good luck on future finds and be sure to post them for us.
