what happened to this coin

    can anyone tell me why this coin is so dull i think it is a 1996 but its hard to tell the date is barly their:thumb::eek::hail:

    Ooh, nice error. Brockage is the term, IIRC? Someone else more knowledgeable can correct me. Also, hold your coin by the edge, not the rims/fields.

    No, I meant when you handle the coin, handle it by it's edges, not the rims or the fields. Don't touch the face, either side, of the coin with your fingers. Finger oils can get on the surface and do all kinds of nasty things.

    It's definitely an error, just a question of exactly what kind of error it is.

    late state capped die

    a brockage should show a mirror-image of the reverse over the obverse. This looks like very late state capped die, as the correct image is visible.
