I don't know here. Is this post mint? the obverse and some of the rim appear like waves, the 4 looks like something else when tilted the right way. I thought I saw someone post I think it was a 1910 S that looked similar.... any ideas?

    better pics....

any more ideas? Dutchman, are the wavy parts indicative of acid being used? Could it be struck through grease or something?

Not disagreeing or anything, but why isn't it more pock-marked as a result of the acid?

It gets more of an orange peel effect than a pock-marked look.

As Matt said, acid. And it is not pock marked much because the metal was well mixed.

The ripples in it look more like a whiz job to me, but it could be an acid bath as well...

This is the one that I have, but it doesn't have the ripples. I take it they come in different flavors...

My initial though by your first pic was it was at one time an encased cent.

well, I know that the overall oval- shape is pmd... i just wondered about the ripples in the hair & the funny 4 & weak 'trust' ... however, it's not thinner than any normal cent, and the reverse is completely normal. Does an acid bath require submerging an entire coin or can one side be done?

    Jim.. i like your avatar
