I have alot of coins that I want to have graded . But the problem is what service to send them off too. I,ve heard that PCGS is the most acurate sevice there is . Is this true? 2nd question who do I need to avoid?
If you plan on selling the coins us PCGS, coins slabbed by them sell for the most..at least on ebay...avoid SGS...they seem to think every coin is an ms70!!
I think that I would go with ANACS...they seem to be great with coins... BUT if you are thinking of selling the coins soon I would go with NGC...they are more $$ to get them slabbed but they might sell for more than ANACS...NGC grades more consistently than PCGS...to tell the truth...sometimes PCGS sells for more than NGC but I don't think they grade as good...and I think you would want the best! Speedy EDITED TO ADD... Try to stay with the top 4 grading services... NGC ANACS PCGS ICG And in some cases... PCI
Without knowing what type of coins you have, it is impossible to say which service. NGC: Consistent grading, fast turnaround times, good customer service, they usually sell for good prices. PCGS: Inconsistent grading, slow turnaround times, no customer service, prices realized are usually good, but if they screw you on the grades and undergrade your coins, a PQ price for an undergraded coin is still less than an average price for an accurately graded coin. ANACS: Fairly consistent grading and are better with circulated coins, great turnaround time if you use the low-cost express, but awful if you use economy, poor customer service, prices realized can be hit or miss. ICG: Modern grading sucks, classic grading can be hit or miss, average turnaround times, good customer service, prices realized can be very lacking. Others: Why bother.
thanks for the info. I,ll check NGC I,ve already checked PCGS & they,re scary on their prices I have an 1856-s seated liberty 50c peice ms64-65 1886 morgan I think is proof (picture is in main gallery here)ms65-66 1854 $1 type II gold dollar (picture also in gallery)au about 25 $2.50 / $5.00 / $10.00 / $20.00 gold peices plus several hundred coins that are worth grading the reason for this is insurance . Plus when I,m gone my wife and kids don,t get ripped off when selling them, or worse use them for pocket change ( my worse nightmare LOL)
Cool, I've never submitted any, just bought them off eBay. I'm not a real big fan of slabbed cards or coins. The ones I did purchase were for the coins and not for the plastic. Bone
I called Mr Taylor and he said that it wasn't for sure yet...he said that it would be the first of the year before he could say for sure...he told me to call him back then... Speedy
WOW--since there are that many I wouldn't send them all at once..in fact I would get a few friends of yours that are collectors and check...some of them might be coins that you can keep raw...but the Key dates and the rare coins I would get slabbed for sure. But I would only send maybe 10-25 at a time to a place that way you can insure them at the post office....if you send 100's its going to be hard to insure them for full value. Speedy
Seems I left the wrong impresion I,m going send them about 10 at a time ,if I send them all at once I won,t have any money left to add to the collection these are coins I.ve been collecting for about 40 years most of my collection are in slabs already.I,m always buying ,selling and trading. I just wanted other collectors opinion,I don,t have any body around here to ask. I always seemed to get honest opions and knowiedgeable anwsers . I really do thank you all for your help in past ,present and future
