do you own this coin (yet)? do you have the other side to show us, we can only grade based on this one side but need the other.

the toning looks NT and I see a few significant die cracks on the coin.

Know that I too am still learning to grade Mexican coins and this coin is a bit earlier than I'm used to looking at so I don't have a lot of experience with them but will offer up my impressions. To me, it's a really pretty coin because of the toning but it seems to be from a rather worn die. Cracks are going every which way. The rims look fine but 'rough' and uneven. I don't know how to explain the rims any other way. Regardless of the many marks and the weakness of LIBERTAD on the cap, plus the deep mark to the left of the L, and some rim hits, I'd suggest this coin could come in a low grade MS61 to 63. Just my guess. I'd like to hear what others have to say about it.

Spot ON Krispy! The coin was in a NGC slab with MS 63 on it! I understand die cracks are fine but in the areas that I have marked, I couldn't distinguish if it was damaged or if they were die cracks. How did you find the difference? :)

LOL! I thought it was slabbed! That pic has the look. Also a good many coins of this era, this nice, are usually certified and protected now.

The parts you circled look like contact marks from other coins. From your pics, I see die cracks strongest as detailed in red in my pic:

BTW, you mentioned, "The coin was in a NGC slab with MS 63"... did someone crack it out?

Why so low? NGC gave it MS63.

Thanks. I see the marks on the cap too but I was not deterred that the coin could be graded higher. For me these marks looked more like contact marks caused by other coins rather than scratches made from something else.

I think it's a little over graded. The picture of the reverse seems to show wear and flattening on the snake. It may be the toning though playing tricks on my eyes. Still a nice coin.

It's a very nice coin. One of the best Mexican peso that I saw in my life!
