Do you want the market grade or the technical grade? I would say MS-65. It looks like it has a spotless reverse and a nice obverse too. Charlie
I'm not sure what the difference is between those it's currently graded by pci, but I don't place much stock in their grades.
Technical grading is where you grade strictly by the set grading standards. Market grading is where you take commercial factors into consideration, such as price and market perception. Is it in a gold label PCI holder or a green label. The green labels are more accurate than the gold labels. Charlie
It's the gold label, so I don't place too much stock in it, however in this case, I think they did a good job, that would crossover. They gave it a 64, and it's pedigreed, which might be why they graded it a 64, instead of a 69, like they seem to do.
The back looks great!!!...on the other side I don't like the looks of it...the face seems to have lots of mark...I would say MS62....the face just has too many marks. Spencer
I think the back may be the nicest I've ever seen. The front is pretty good, and I think some of the marks may be from the cracks, but without having it in hand, it's hard to tell.
I would say go right ahead, you are getting a very nice coin and should be very happy with your purchase. I had two complete sets of these Liberty head dimes, and each coin was hand picked from either the bank or the Denver mint. Not a one of these coins looked any better than the one you have pictured here. You could do far worse than buy this one.
Pretty certainly describes it. From a photographic standpoint, I'm a little concerned with the detail variations in the cheek and neck, but I'm reaching to find these errors. MS64 seems to fit it nicely. Heritage results in this grade are currently running $230-270-ish, and none of them have the eye appeal of your coin. I'd hit it at that price.
MS 64 in NGC. PCGS might grade it 63, depending on the obverse hits. Reverse is STRONG. All, IMHO...Mike
Going on a limb and say, MS-66. Of course I'm not a coin dealer and am offering my opinion on it's actual grade. Bone
I actually bought a proof 65 washington quarter in the gold label pci holder, and sent it to pcgs, and it came back a 67. I simply wanted it in a pcgs holder because I wanted to see the whole coin since I liked the way it looked.
I will say that I've seen some good coins in PCI holders....but it takes time to know what one is good. My S VDB is in a PCI holder but I'm sure that it would cross over at the same grade that PCI gave...maybe someday I'll send it in for cross over... Speedy
