It seems to have had something stamped onto it. The picture is not all that great but cant do better at the moment.

It's damage from a coin roller machine.

Hey non_cents, am I seeing things or is this a light, mis-aligned "vise job." I see a light imprint of the Jefferson Memorial, maybe rotated 100 degrees CCW. Maybe I am seeing things, but that is what it looks like.

this looks like a squeeze job. looks like the imprint of another coin's rim can be seen on this one.

The scans aren't optimal...I couldn't really make out a vice job at first but it very may well be one. I think the important thing to realize is that this is damage and not an error.

No crimes have been committed, the OP hasn't tried to sell it as an error yet.
The English language is the only victim here.:)

I think I have stated once before that one of my vices was misspelling vise....

let's all just call it a vice job instead of vise job then we can get it right. LOL...come to think of it pressing or squeezing the coins together may be illegal so vice job would be appropriate in this case.

Yes it is the back of another nickel imprinted on it. Was pretty sure it wasn't an error but wanted to know what could cause it, now I do. haha
