This us-Philippines peso had a counter stamp on it. What does it mean? I have never seen this before. It’s not a chop mark
Millions of different meanings and(stated above^^).There is no 100% single Answer, basically infinite possibilities!!! Use your imagination.
There are thousands of counter stamped coins. I’m not familiar with that mark. Only the person that put it there knows for sure. They are fascinating:
Hard to tell from your photo. Are you sure it is incused? Appears to be raised in the photo, indicating it was part of the die, which would make it even stranger.
What's bizarre is that the counterstamp is clearly visible on the zoomed in photo. However, I don't see it on the full on obverse picture. What am I missing?
It's in the area where the mountain reaches the denticles. It would help to see what it says on the slab.
Someone told me it was deliberately hidden on the coin so it may be a type of spy marking…. Any ideas??
I looks raised, if so it could be the initial of the designer and it would be on every coin minted. A counter stamp will be below the surface of the field.
