Hey guys, maybe I suck at using search but I cant seem to find anything that answers this question for me. The reason I ask is I have in front of me 1/2 of a 1970 unc. mint set. It has 2 pennies, 1 dime, 1 nickel, 1 quarter, and a blue and grey badge from the mint. I see in my red book that a small date cent is worth more than the regular cent in this mint set. Am i supposed to be looking at the 1970-S penny? How do I know if it is a small date?? Also, In the redbook it says 1970 P-D-S. The little badge in the mint set states : "Philadelphia Mint & San Francisco Assay Office". Is this the 1970 P-D-S set. And wow I'm sorry for the ramble but is there supposed to be a mintmark on the dime?? Thanks for all your help in advance!! Im still very very new to this. Jim
Thanks ldhair, I also just stumbled upon a site, lincolncentresource.com, found it through these forums!! Very detailed but I still cant tell if its a small date or not. I have a 10X triplet, 21mm, is this sufficient? Can someone also let me know if this is indeed part of the 1970 P-D-S mint set? Thanks again! Jim
thanks rlm's cents, just saw that not too long ago, still cant really tell, the differences are so minute. I will get better though! Jim
You might also try http://www.thecentproject.com/sort1970.php for info. It is indeed difficult. Look at the height of the 7. Does it match the tops of the other numbers? Look at the curl of the 9. Look at the shape of the 0. Look at the notch of the 7. That's not counting "Liberties."
