What do you use to track your collection?

I would like to find a good method to track my collection so that when I go to a coin shop of show I can easily look at what I have and not buy duplicates by mistake.

One big problem I have is that I like going to coin shops, but rarely do because I like browsing and don't want the shop owner wasting their time trying to help me when I don't know what I want. When I do find things that I want to buy, I have gotten it home to find it's something I already have. This problem would be greatly mitigated if I could go to a website and see what I have.

Do you upload an Excel spreadsheet to Google docs? Do NGC or PCGS have a good program to track your ungraded coins?

I know it would be best to go in to a shop and know exactly what I'm looking for, but that takes some of the fun out of it for me.

A simple spreadsheet work if you don't have too many coins. There was another thread about this with lots of good info but I could not find it. Someone else may be able to do so.

Thanks for those links. I did a quick search and didn't see those. Sounds like Excel is the way to go;)

I use Excel for my tokens. Works great except for when I forget to add a token I already bought!!!

You should do something like that - excel or some sort of free spreadsheet, uploaded to a mobile device like phone or tablet that is easy to carry. Save it to the device so you don't have to rely on wireless signals.

Or you could go old school and print it and take it with you. Dealers won't mind...well they shouldn't mind.

I have it all in Excel now. I have also tried the Liberty Street software. I don't really like Google docs, so I'll see if I can get Excel to work on my phone.

I use US Coins for Mac. Great program. Can't tell you though if it's available for Windows.

For US coins I go out old school and use a check list book. About $8 on Amazon.

I use Libre Office, a free spreadsheet program that pretty much does what Excel does but for $0.
