I've been putting my loose coins into 2x2 flips gradually, and if the box is not full, they tend to expand and slide around to get thoroughly mixed up. I don't like the stapled 2x2 holders as much because of the potential for scratches and being difficult to take photos. Is there a good place to buy "bookend"-like 2x2 weighted objects to hold the coins in place in partially empty boxes? Any suggestions most welcomed, thanks. Below: a messy workspace, with much still to catalog!
For short term, I use bubble wrap. I can cut it down or fold it. Long term, I use acid free cardboard.
If I can't fill more than half of the 2x2 box, then I will use the 20-pocket pages for the flips. Once I have enough flips to put into a box, I will create a "spacer" using a piece of cardboard cut to the appropriate length and 4-1/2" wide. Make two slices (don't cut all the way through) the length of the cardboard at 1-1/2" intervals so that you can fold it into a triangular shape. Use packing tape to close the triangular-shaped tube. As you add more coins, you can always cut the length of the "tube" to make it shorter.
The cardboard rolls left over from your TP. Cut to length and free. Same for the rolls from paper towels.
I like to use 6 sided dice. They are cheap. Old Legos would work also I suppose. Main point is to fill the void space and be able to change the configuration as you fill it. Yeah Legos if you have them laying around would probably be best you can click em together. Lol
Legos would be great if I didn't have a 5-year-old. She would have a fit if I took any! The older kids don't care any more...
My local coin shop was able to give me some spare coin tubes. As a bonus, they are the square ones so they don't roll around. I can reshuffle them or use something as a spacer as it gets more full. Can't beat free! Thanks for all the advice.
