I posted earlier this last week in regards to some notes. That got me curious so I started rummaging through some old boxes and found these two notes. I knew I had them somewhere. Just curious about anyone thoughts on grade and value. I appreciate any other information in regards to these. The $1 has a blue seal and states Act of Aug 4,1886. Series of 1899 . The $5 is also a blue seal on the right of Lincoln black on the left. Series of 1914.. thanks jerry
I don't know much about currency. I'm gonna rotate your image so the notes are easier to see. There. That's better.
Well, I'm not going to be much help as I know nothing about large notes. But, I must say those are beautiful notes!!!
Well, I've been looking for 1$ Black Eagles (the 1$ 1899 Silver Certificate) -and so I'd say I have an idea of the price for that is. (the 5$ I have no idea) but I'd so both grade Fine to Very Fine? Since it looks like there's only folds in it, with no pinholes, tears, or any other type of damage. They also dont look very circulated. The Black Eagle is probably around the $200-$300 range? Maybe even higher because there is no damage. Again, I'm not too sure, but I'd say that's a good estimate.
thanks magman.. I guess I will have to put that $1 away. Both look much better in person then the picture scanned by my printer. Any other information from anyone regarding these to bills is much appreciated.
The notes are in Fine condition, so $1 1899 is Fr#236 and should be $135-150, $5 1914 is Fr#850 and should $65-90. But you do know that both large and small size currency share the same grade system, don't you? I know you respect only AU and higher but you could guess at least sinse you decided to make a post... I've being following this group for few weeks for now and can't help notice that huge number of post are "greate find", "those are beautiful notes" and "I dunno". Of cause, they are beautiful (as said a dealler in a coin shop I visit once in a while, "they all were beautiful engraving works until they start putting dead persidents in there") and you love them - we all here share the same hobbie. But when it comes to something little more specific I fill like this is not the place to seek an answer...
That's a little harsh, don't ya think? Give the thread a little more time for an "expert" to read the question and answer it. Not everyone monitors CoinTalk around the clock, especially on a Sunday.
"just" is not applied in my case - I've done a little more then just a complain - I have answered the original question. Read your own posts, guys (not just in this thread) - you're missing point and changing subjects. Hobo, you've said "Give the thread a little more time..." when I clearly wrote about forum in general but not about this specific thread. Why I was here - test drive.
quote from "vrt."....I've being following this group for few weeks for now and can't help notice that huge number of post are "greate find", "those are beautiful notes" and "I dunno". There are many of us here who know each others collections..thats why you see alot of "nice note, great find, ect ect..... So you expect a professional appraisal? Well..there are a number of 3rd Party services why not seek their advice?. What have you done for the community except to rag on its members....I personally feel insulted, not so much for myeslf, but for the others that just may or may not feel the same way that I do. I must say Sir, your post carries a tone of dissapointment...for $30 you may get all the dissapointment that you care to. "I know you respect only AU and higher but you could guess at least sinse you decided to make a post..." did you mix up RichieB with me RickieB? If so, how do you know what I respect? My personal choice has noting to do with what or whom I respect....I know for a fact RichieB16 has tremendous respect for all notes regardless of condition! I am done now.... Remember this....Honey goes a lot further than vinegar! Regards to you Sir, RickieB
Well thanks everyone for your opinions. I know that these are not from a professional grading company but I do regard your thoughts and opinions very highly. OF course if I was going to sell them I would get a appraisel of these. We all here say nice and great find because we are very happy when one of our CT friends has a great find or shares some information about his collection. Thanks and keep the opinions coming. That is what CT is all about......Jerry
Covert.... I personally hold regards for New York notes....the Series 1914 Blue Seal has seen plenty of action to say the least. There are several signature combinations on these notes and I look for the Burke/MacAdoo on Blue Seals..he signed Red Seals as well. That note looks F to maybe a low VF to me. Still they are wonderful notes and a very cool part of Americana..... Keep it and pass it on to someone who will love it. I am not familiar with Black Eagles all that much....it is a nice note and deserves a mylar sleeve. Regards, RickieB
I think I will take your advice RickieB and put those away. They actually look much better in person then on my scanner. Will tuck them away for the kids. Have a 10 yo who has shown some interest in the coin/paper collecting. take care
Both notes are keepers! I would say 'very nice notes', but wouldnt want a thrashing Most who know my collection know i DONT have the highest graded notes or coins, so the note posted by the OP are certainly my kind of notes. I wouldnt put the Black eagle as high as 2 or 300 either... maybe closer 10 $150 tops. the $5, i would have to look in my books, which of course, are not here. But since it is less common the the $1, i would think it could go higher - but dont know for sure without my books. What VRT mentioned about the $5 pricewise could easily be true as well..
what do you think? Wow someone has issues. I'm happy with "looks good or great find" after all this is a discussion forum.
