I have been contemplating this purchase now for about a week....I'm attempting to collect the series...or as much of it as I can. A seller on Ebay has this for $295 "buy it now" I haven't decided yet...slightly over 21,000 minted of this date. Asking for opinions on the grade also... https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https://www.ebay.com/ulk/itm/303145956873
I like the coin and grade, not the price. That would be a tough series for me to complete. A great project though! Message/contact the seller and make him an offer you like. Many times the seller will accept.
You're paying for a sticker at least by $55 . I see this coin in the $ 235/245 range for its grade. Pass on the list price.....offer $240.max
The piece looks quite nice. The price looks quite high. For reference, a VF-30 sold on Great Collections earlier this year for $173. So, that seller is *at least* $100 too high.
Not a series I collect or am real familiar with. The grade and coin look nice when I apply the standards in the Red Book but the price is too high. You could offer about $50-75 less. If you don't ask it's an automatic no so what have you got to lose?
I took all of your advice and passed on this coin I did however purchase this one....a better looking coin in my opinion for alot less....$230. I hope I made a better decision...I'm just learning this series myself. By the way...does this look like an overdate? Under the "2"?
It appears like the vertical lines on the numerals are virtually complete, and the reverse has good detail. I think the obverse might just barely make VF-30. I'm hoping in hand it is a bit darker than those pictures show - the top coin has great color, the bottom coin appears pale. However, I think that might be a difference in lighting. I do think that's still a strong price, especially for a raw coin.
Thank you for commenting....for some reason I've been after this date.. this wasn't the cheapest one available but I think it was the best looking one....and I like eye appeal
Nice pick and pretty much spot on retail price for the date and condition. What some fail to realize is collecting a series as this or half dimes where mintages go from millions to less than thousands....and finding a coin in vf / xf condition is rare. So when you do find one you make quick decisions. As one who does collect 3 cent nickels this was a good buy and sweet hole filled in the set.
Like @physics-fan3.14 said, much better detail all around compared to the first coin. I'm hoping the coin wasn't cleaned or that pale color in-hand. I hope it's just the seller pictures. Post new pictures when you get it in-hand.
Glad you passed on the first one. As has been said, too expensive for what it is. The pricing is pretty flat on this up to XF. Seller was asking PR64 money.
