Hi CRG The coin is real !!! However Im not sure if the error is real, does the curved area fit to another cent? with the tilt of the coin in the picture Im not sure that Iam seeing it correctly? I have seen other coins with errors like this that were in fact genuine !! Rick
First glance it looks like an out of collar double struck penny (I think I got the term right) but what's throwing me is that in the "smushed" section, there are details from the same penny, not from two distinct strikes. Also, the field is roughed up. Will have to leave this one to Mike Diamond
Ok, Dont get discouraged,, the error can still be genuine !! can you see any evidence of details in the protruded area? a multiple strike coin may or may not have decernable details, but it helps to identify it if it does ,, this would be the type of error that this coin would be , multiple strike . If you have a dealer that you can take it to , great !! do that,, these type of errors are very collectable. Rick
Sorry, it's a fake. On the reverse face, the surface opposite the "second strike" is flat as a pane of glass. That will never be the case with a genuine error. Elsewhere on the coin, design details are flattened and obliterated in a wholly unnatural fashion.
Shoot the Buffalo, the tallest floyd county mountain that is. No disrespect meant to the buffalo collectors. Thanks Mike, I was rather concerned about it as well. What tipped me off that it may be fake was how there seemed to be a "round knobs" on the back part.
