Some would go cameo. There is a little something that troubles me, though. Some of the photos show fields that are so black and featureless that they raise suspicions of some touch-up work. The pictures are a little dark, so this may be contributing to that. Not trying to raise anyone's dander, just calling it as I see it, and also as it may be perceived by an online buyer.
@messydesk Very true photos can change what you see. Especially if there lighting is off angle taken etc. Plus not everyone can see the same thing.
The photo's remind me of the photographic technique used by a seller on eBay that still sells Proof Sets/coins. Below is a picture used in a listing where I purchased a 1959 Proof Set as a relative newbie. What the coins looked like with a regular photograph was this: Not a Cameo in the bunch and needless to say, I took a real bath. The key to the photography technique is to simply make the coin look good BUT the camera cannot make cameo appear where none exists such as the dark area's on the Profiles and the middles of the letter strokes. When those areas appear grey or dull while the outline of the device appears bright white, you can bet that very direct, but diffused lighting was used and what appears to be a strong cameo is simply not.
One thing that will allow Cameo appearance to show up is black and while photo if cameo is present on coin .. But if not it will be all the same appearance no frosting on coin.
Nice looking coins, a few spots and smudges . It's a shame Franklin ' s are not in demand as other series. About two months ago I was working a coin show, a man came in with a nice full MS set. No one made an offer! As they all had full inventories of Franklin half's and none were selling. I've always liked the coin and have a complete set in ms my self. Missing the first two years in my proof.
First 3 years of Franklin half dollar Proofs are hardest part of the set. Money wise and grade wise to!
These were taken with my Dino-lite microscope camera. Unfortunately, I have not discovered a way to take a pic of a proof that does not come out dark like these. I can use another camera but even in hand these coins show the cameo. True there are a few spots on a couple and the one coin looks like it has some smudging on it. Maybe tomorrow I'll use my other camera and see what I come up with.
That's a cool photographic effect--they almost look like cutouts, but I can see a few places where spots show through. Your Dino-lite must have built-in illumination around the lens.
Nice looking coins. I like them. HOWEVER, if the coins are paired up obverse/reverse as you have them, I doubt any of them would cameo. Many of them have one side that would cameo, but the other would not. You might get a * out of various of the coins if sent in to NGC.
Youse guys are way too demanding. All I want is a nice clean piece. Cameo is nice but not necessary......... Nice Franks Keemao.
