Hey Gang! While researching some script on Heritage I ran across one of the notes I have in a set of 4 pieces. This appears to be the same note that sold twice. You can see the same small stain down by the "Cashier" on the obverse. The Canton Ohio 1907 scrip is one of the most common types of the 1907 Panic Scrip (not script). I have seen several over the years and all have been unissued remainders. One reason for the difference in price is the 2004 sale was in a Heritage weekly internet auction. The 2005 sale was at FUN. The weekly sales do not get as much attention. While the 1907 scrip is generally scarcer than the 1933 Depression Scrip, $400.00+ is way too much for this note. That having been said, all it takes is two people who have never seen this type of note before and who want it really badly to drive the price up. This must have been what happened at the FUN auction. Interestingly, I have seen this same pattern repeated with more esoteric items like this. In the FUN auction this year, Heritage sold a sheet of 10 US Government Printing Office refund coupons for $230.00. While I have never seen them in a regular auction before, I have picked up many of them off Ebay over the years for a couple dollars.
