I am not really a serious coin collecter but i think that it is fun to see all of the different coins out there. I was wondering what everyone else focuses on when they collect so i can get an idea of what kind of coins i would really like to work on collecting. There are so many options and i am just undecided! thanks!
i collect cents, both large and small, but my main focus is indian head cents. i also have a collection of peace dollars i am slowly working on.
I'm just about to begin working on a type set of American dimes, though I think I'd also like to work on a more comprehensive collection of Mercury dimes. Do you own any books on the subject of coin collecting? I recently finished Coin Collecting for Dummies (I'm a beginner too) and found it very informative. It also includes pictures of all the different types of coins the US has minted, so find one that pleases you and go for it! The book is a little less detailed when it comes to ancient and world coins though, so if that is something that would interest you, you might be better off picking up a different book.
I posted a similar question awhile back. I have a hodge podge of different coins but I am trying to focus mainly on nickels. Oh and tokens, I go on semi-regular token binges!! It don't matter what you collect, you are sure to become fascinated and have plenty of fun and that's the main thing with any hobby.
Well, I have my barber halves and jefferson nickels. Haven't worked on them much, working on a US type set 1800-date. That'll keep me busy for a long time.
