So this looks more than a bit odd... Any guesses as to the cause? Mint Error? Major Strike Through? Post Mint Damage? I'm all ears... A new whatchamacallit? The obverse looks normal, a little circulated but normal with no excessive wear and nothing out of the ordinary. The Reverse as you can see is just weird...Interested in hearing your thoughts on this one... Post away...

acid down to the steel core?

It looks like it has been in acid alittle too much!

When people put acid on a coin for fun they usually only put it on one side or the other this is a good way to tell if acid has been used for fun.

Yep it is just on one side, I think acid is the most likely cause myself, but ya never know. The edge is evenly beveled which to me says a planchet error. But I aware this can be done easily by a machinist... It just raises my eyebrow... Just Curious

Little known fact: Felix Schlag created the winning design for the nickel, but there were known examples of patterns by the runner-up. A man by the name of TIMOTHY LEARY!

    Hahahahaha

May be Road Rash. I have found coins in parking lots with all kinds of crazy damage.
