I came across this 64 Washington quarter a few weeks ago on eBay .. It's in a NTC holder graded MS69 , now I know that's not Likley.. Still yet it looks like a nice Washington to me.. I don't know much about grading these .. There are a few lite marks one the eagles wing on the reverse and a hit on Washington's neck .. When I posted the listing photos a week or so ago , someone mentioned the toning may Have gone to far as it looked almost black in those photos. In hand the toning it more of a purplish / blue color.. So Im wondering what you guys would grade this coin? I hope it would go 66 or 67, but I'm not familiar with these enough to say for sure.
This one is tough. With the photos at hand, I would hesitate for a 66-67 with the eagle's right (our left) wing. It seems to have a few marks on it.
I didn't pay a crazy price for the coin , really got it for about what raw unc Washington's are selling !! So even if it is a just a 64 or possibly 65 , then I didn't do to bad..
Nice. I also like having some of these novelty basement slabs around, just to remind people to buy the coin and not the holder.
It's a nice coin especially if they change the grading in the future from 1 to 100. I would definitely say you had an 85 teetering on 87 for the toning. But only time will tell.
Thanks guys You know I also like finding nice coins in these lower teir slabs , sometimes you run across a nice one and can get it at a great price!
I've been buying a few PCI coins , I know a lot of people hate on pci but I've been getting coins that in my opinion look high end for the grade comparing to similar coins in pcgs or ngc slabs. Now pci may be looser on some series more than others , but the barber and mercury dimes I've purchased and most I've seen look about right and if any thing a bit conservative .. Now these have all been in the old green pci slabs .. It seems a lot of people have icg as the # 4 company , don't get me wrong , I like icg its just I've came across a lot more of there coins that Ive questioned than I have old green pci coins. So in my book I would say #1 pcgs #2 tie ngc / anacs #3 pci #4 icg Really I believe how you would rank each company would depend on what series you are talking about , as I would rank them different when it comes to buffalo nickels !
