I have one with similar damage and had to think it out.

Now I'm confused. I'm very grateful I DON'T have to think out the damage to my penny, if that's what you mean. It's wonderful to be able to take some photos and start a thread, and get people who know so much to look and give opinions. But as far as what happened to this penny and to yours, I don't have a clue. What do you think it is?

Sorry about the first post. As mangled as the penny.

I wish I knew what caused it. I didn't mean to cause any grief. They both look like they were pinched or struck. But, I can't see any way for it to have been part of the mint process. On mine you can see the IN of IGWT was pressed down. Just damage and we will never know how.

Maybe we should agree that both of our pennies were damaged in the minting process? We hereby declare....

Whatever happened to them, it did not happen until AFTER it left the mint

I hope you jest. I don't think they were damaged in the minting process.
