    I think it's more "re-punching" or "re-engraving". It does look like it's on the die, though, not the coin (or perhaps I should say "coin").

    Here's the likely source. The pictured item shows 1936, but you can see the same kind of doubling. $1.65, free shipping from China. :rolleyes:
