I should know this, but I'm not sure. So it's "My Duh" I suppose. I was looking at an auction site at some Morgans that were up for bid. In the description on one coin it said NGC Census (111/1640) and PCGS Population (192/2776). I understand census and population but don't get the meaning of the first number, then the slash and then the second number. Thanks ahead of time for your help.
I believe the first number is how many have the same grade, and the second number is how many are graded higher. I may be wrong though, so pretend I didn't even respond.
This break down of the population report usually indicates the following: Number of coins with the same grade as the coin you are looking at/The number of coins in a higher grade than the one you are looking at. Hope this helps.
And it changes day by day as new coins are graded. You must know the date of the report for accuracy. Someone just showing you a copy of an old report, could be misleading.
What about the second pair of numbers within each set of parentheses? Example: NGC Census: (47/1236 and 0/20+). PCGS Population: (47/2140 and 0/86+).
I would think thy relate to the number of coins that have received + grades. I wouldn't think PCGS would be able to automatically track the coins that receive CAC stickers. 77 posts to go
Yes, that makes sense now that I look back and see the + in there. Makes sense as well that the TPG would have no way to know which coins have the "beans" on them.
