Was going through a box of half dollars tonight and as I opened a roll I saw a rim that looked like a silver coin. But when I got to it I saw it’s a ‘72. But there’s no obvious sign of a clad layer.

I remember reading that there were some post-1970 Kennedy’s that were on the wrong planchettes. Now I don’t expect this to actually be one ( my luck doesn’t run like that... ) but WHAT IS IT??? Counterfeit?

I’m hoping to get it into a spectrograph for a metallic breakdown but help me prepare for a gigantic letdown.

ps NO nasty remarks about my hands. I already know.

My only guess is that it could be plated.

I’m not sure why, but it looks a bit off for a 40% silver half.

    Hopefully it’s a real error though :)

It should weigh about 11.34 gms, so it could be plated.

Did you ever resolve this? I found one of these myself last week.
